Mitchell Starc has been recalled to Australia’s ODI squad for the three-match series against India, beginning on October 19 in Perth. Joining him are Matthew Short and Mitchell Owen, both returning after recovering from a side strain and concussion respectively, while Matthew Renshaw also earns a place in the 15-member squad. Mitchell Marsh will continue to lead the team, as Pat Cummins has chosen to skip the series to focus on regaining fitness ahead of the Ashes starting November 21.
Australia's ODI squad for the India series
This will be Mitchell Starc’s first appearance of the season after skipping the South Africa series to manage his workload ahead of the upcoming Ashes, having already retired from T20Is. Several players from the previous ODI squad have been left out, including Marnus Labuschagne, Sean Abbott, Aaron Hardie, and Matthew Kuhnemann. Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth due to Sheffield Shield duties with South Australia but will rejoin the squad for the final two matches. Matthew Renshaw, meanwhile, makes his first ODI return since 2022, rewarded for his strong performances with Australia A and Queensland.
The squad features Travis Head, Josh Inglis, and the all-rounders Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green, and captain Mitchell Marsh. The pace unit comprises Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Ellis, Xavier Bartlett, Ben Dwarshuis, and Starc, with both Bartlett and Dwarshuis also capable of contributing useful runs down the order. Adam Zampa remains the side’s only specialist spinner. After the ODI series, Green will head back to represent Western Australia as part of his preparations for the Ashes.

Australia's T20I squad for India series
Josh Inglis and Nathan Ellis have both returned to Australia’s T20I squad, with Inglis recovering from a calf injury and Ellis rejoining after missing the Chappell-Hadlee series to attend the birth of his first child. Glenn Maxwell, however, remains sidelined with a wrist injury sustained during practice before that series and will miss the upcoming matches against India.
Josh Philippe and Alex Carey have been left out from the previous T20I squad that faced New Zealand, with Inglis expected to resume wicketkeeping duties. The batting unit features Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Tim David, Inglis, Matthew Short, and Mitchell Owen, while Marcus Stoinis retains his spot in Maxwell’s absence. The pace attack is led by Ben Dwarshuis, Xavier Bartlett, Josh Hazlewood, and Ellis, with Matthew Kuhnemann and Adam Zampa forming the spin duo.
“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket and the majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.” said selection committee chair George Bailey.
